Harvest 2004
Picture taken by John Miller
With higher than average yields in many grape varieties, the 2004 harvest has produced a strong vintage for Denbies. Good overall sugar levels indicate that fruit was ripe throughout the vineyard. Sparkling grape varieties harvested especially well ensuring a good supply of "Greenfields" for future years. Sugar levels in the 2004 Ortega caused excitement in the winery and depending on demands and the wine makers final decision may be released as part of the "Vineyard Select" range.
Following the trend of previous years the red varieties had high fruit production. Denbies hope to increase output of red even further in 2005 as the first wave of the new plantings reach maturity.
The new vintage will start to appear in January 05 with the release of Surrey Gold and then continue throughout the year. Reds, which require additional barrel maturity, will be released towards the end of the year.
